PINE awarded grant money for training

On Friday, October 6, 2017 – In celebrating October as Manufacturing Month, the Baker-Polito Administration awarded $11.9 million in Workforce Training Fund Program grants to 121 Massachusetts companies. This will provide training for nearly 7,000 workers and is projected to create 1,000 new jobs in the Commonwealth.

PINE was awarded $240,603 for 96 employees to be trained with the expectation and hope of five new jobs to be created as a result of training. This is a consortium grant involving three companies: DS Graphics of Lowell, Ramsbottom Printing of Fall River and Standard Modern of New Bedford.

PINE created this consortium with Hamilton Cornell Associates in order to partake in this grant for the benefit of four members. Future grant applications will be made for those additional member companies wanting to participate in lean training.

Today’s Workforce Training Fund Program grants build on the record investments in workforce training and education made by the Baker Administration in recent years. Within the manufacturing industry alone, the Administration awarded more than $11.9 million through this grant program to 121 manufacturers over the last two years.

“This program is a highly effective catalyst for job creation in manufacturing and we look forward to the growth in skills and success for these 121 companies and their employees,” said Lieutenant Governor Karen Polito. “Workforce Training Fund grantees have added jobs at more than double the statewide average, helping to close high demand skills gaps in the Commonwealth and provide new jobs for residents.”

PINE is also interested in helping more Massachusetts members access the fund through other consortiums that can be organized covering other topics moving forward.
